About this program

Cultivating the Riverbank

Since 2019, this strip of land along the Code River in Ledok Tukangan has been worked by hand — concrete broken, soil brought in, and the first seedlings planted by the women of Kampung Kali Code. What grows here isn't just vegetables. In September 2021, 1,200 seedlings were planted together in a single morning, a moment covered nationally by Metro TV as a grassroots food independence movement. Every Saturday, Pak Bambang leads the next chapter of that same practice.

Who can join

Open to anyone — no farming experience needed. Students, families, and first-time visitors are all welcome. Closed shoes recommended; gloves are provided.

What you'll do
  • Plant seedlings and tend existing beds alongside long-time members.
  • Turn kitchen waste into eco enzyme and organic fertiliser.
  • Harvest whatever is ready and learn how it's processed — sometimes into peyek or tempe.
  • Learn vertikultur and composting techniques used on the riverbank itself.

Common questions

Common questions

Do I need farming experience?
No. Most of what you'll learn here was taught to the community the same way — by doing it together, every Saturday.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and closed shoes. Gloves and tools are provided on site.
Can I join just once, or do I need to commit weekly?
Either is fine. Many people start with one Saturday and decide to keep coming back — but a single visit is welcome too.
